Model 1927
The Dutch M27 and M34 are unique in their design and provide relatively good head protection in comparison with the Dutch M16. The M34 was a slight modification of the previous model where the edge is slightly more curved leaving more free space for the ears. This allowes the soldiers to hear the commands from their officers better.
The M.34 on this page was found near Rhenen and belonged to a soldier that defended the Grebbeberg (Grebbe mountain) a key defense position for the Dutch army in 1940 against the Germans. It is unknown what happend to the original owner of the helmet. Let us hope he survived the tragic encounter with the shrapnel that caused the damage.
